Bolton’s roofs
Bolton grew around its mills, and plenty of its housing still shows it. Brick and stone terraces run through Daubhill, Halliwell, Great Lever and Farnworth, many with slate roofs and chimney stacks. Interwar and post-war semis fill Heaton, Harwood, Astley Bridge and Breightmet. Out at Horwich and Westhoughton there are older terraces near the town centres and a lot of newer estates around them.
Bolton sits right under the West Pennine Moors, and roofs on higher ground get more wind and rain than most.
The jobs that come up most
- Slate repairs and re-roofs on older terraces where the nails have rusted and slates are slipping. See slate and tile repairs.
- Full re-roofs on semis whose original felt and battens have failed. See new roofs.
- Chimney repairs on tall old stacks, including repointing and new flashings. See chimney repairs.
- Storm damage to ridges, hips and verges on exposed roofs. See roof repairs.
